nOURish Volunteer Opportunities
Rabbi Colin and I are excited to announce that B’nai Torah has been presented with a wonderful opportunity to participate in volunteering at nOURish Bridgeport (formerly known as Nora Pfreim Urban Outreach Initiatives) to help serve our neighbors in need. Their programs help our neighbors who are homeless, food insecure and struggling to build better lives.
They have many different volunteer opportunities, but we thought we would start with assisting at the weekly “Feel the Warmth” Community Supper on Thursday, May 23rd and the neighborhood Food Pantry on Wednesday, May 29th.
“Feel the Warmth” Community Supper – Thursday, May 23
We normally need a maximum of 15 volunteers from 5:15 to 7:30 P.M. If anyone would like to come early to help prepare the meal at 3:30, there is room for 5 people, (we work out of a small kitchen). Our Community Supper is located at the Hall of Calvary St. George Church located at 755 Clinton Avenue in Bridgeport. Volunteers are needed to help prepare, set up, serve and clean up after the meal. They are very flexible – you can do a 3:30 – 5:30 shift, 5:30 -7:30 or stay the whole time.
Neighborhood Food Pantry – Wednesday, May 29
We ask for 12 volunteers from 4:15 to 6:45 P.M. Our Food Pantry is located in the basement of the Fairfield Apartments, 1062 Fairfield Avenue in Bridgeport.Volunteers are needed to register/check in people, assist with groceries, weigh orders and help in the Baby Center.
If there is enough interest we hope to send a volunteer crew there every couple of months. Children are welcomed to come with their parents.
Please contact the office if you are interested in helping out with either of the dates or feel free to reach out with any questions.
